Training on Evaluation for Gewog Administrative Officers

The Evaluation Association of Bhutan (EAB), in partnership with the Office of Cabinet Affairs and Strategic Coordination, PMO Office, and UNICEF Country Office, conducted a three-day training for Gewog Administrative Officers (GAOs). This initiative aimed to highlight the significance of evaluation in planning and decision-making for local government offices. The primary goals were to promote an evaluation culture at the grassroots level and to enhance the efficiency of planning and implementation at the local level. It was crucial for local government officials to understand that evaluation is an essential component of planning and decision-making. The training also emphasized incorporating insights from the 12th Five Year Plan (FYP) evaluation and enhancing support for the 13th FYP.

This session marked the fifth batch of training, encompassing 11 districts. Participants included GAOs from Haa, Paro, and Thimphu, who attended from 30th July to 1st August 2024 in Paro. A total of 34 participants joined the training, including 24 GAOs, 2 District Planning Officers, and 8 sector heads.

The training aimed to equip GAOs with fundamental skills in evaluation approaches, methods, and tools to assess the relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability, and coherence of gewog-level programs. Additionally, it focused on enabling gewog officials to incorporate evaluation findings and lessons into local program reviews, thereby contributing to the attainment of national goals.
